Road Trip Part 2 aka my quest for Tony Hawk is unhealthy

6 May

Sorry for the late post Cindy, but I was sleepy last night.

Yesterday we travelled from Albuquerque through Texas to Oklahoma. After eating at Sonic for the first time ever (!) we met a gumballer at the gas station who told us that we had seen him pulled over on the side of the road the day before. His driver had just gotten out of jail that morning and was booking it to Dallas, Texas.

During this ride my quest to find Tony Hawk reached a whole new level. Through Twitter we discovered 20 minutes too late that we had been in Amarillo at the same time as him. Hawk evaded us yet again. We saw this car at the gas station. It had Dubai plates.

In Texas we saw 10 cops in 53 miles. We also drove through some really intense fog.

Here are some more assorted pics from yesterday.

Road Trip Part 1 aka Gumball 3000

4 May

So yesterday we arrived in Vegas around 3:30 at the Mirage. The room was wonderful and the bed was probably the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept on. However we ended up having to spend 3 hours in the Sears Auto Center getting Mike’s car fixed. We ended up not seeing much of the city apart from the Forum shops.

Took off for Albuquerque this morning and we got a nice surprise when the GPS decided to take us on a highway that went through the Hoover Dam. They were building a crazy bridge.

For the most part this is what the drive looked like (except for the boring parts).

Along the drive we started seeing all these super fast cars decked out with Puma decals (amongst others) zipping by us on the freeway. I vaguely remembered from reading Tony Hawk’s twitter that some cross country road race/scavenger  hunt was going on. One of the cars had a stickers that said Gumball 3000 on it, so I googled it and found this. We saw some pretty crazy cars go by like these ones.

We also made a sign that said “Tony Hawk?” and held it up to the gumballers in an effort to find Tony. They all thought it was pretty funny.

Update: After reviewing some video footage of Tony Hawk we have confirmed that he was driving behind me in a one lane construction zone. That blue bike was attached to the back of an SUV behind us. I was the one responsible for holding him up. Perfection

(we didn’t take this photo, but I wish we did!)

Sleeping in Albuquerque tonight and tentatively on to Oklahoma City tomorrow.
